The Artist

Daniel Gardner (1750-1805) was an inventive portrait painter known for blending pastel, gouache, and graphite to create luminous, intimate likenesses. A pupil of Sir Joshua Reynolds, he brought freshness and immediacy to late eighteenth-century portraiture. Favoured by fashionable patrons, Gardner’s distinctive technique captured the elegance and natural charm of his sitters.
